CONTRACTS MANAGER

This Position is in Lusaka, ZAMBIA, for an International company

  • Aged between 30-45 years
  • Must have a minimum of 6-8 years industrial/ commercial experience
  • Candidate must be conversant/ experienced in supervision of skilled and semi-skilled air conditioning technicians and should be experienced in supervision and installation of air conditioning equipment for commercial and domestic use in range of 1-100 metric tones capacity.
  • Must have university degrees from recognized university in Mechanical/ Electrical engineering
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have a clean driving license
  • Must have the ability to fill the job title – Contracts Manager. The ability to design air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration systems would be an added advantage.
  • Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience and for overseas recruits would be expected to be in the range of $ 1000 - $ 1500 per month net.( after Tax) For Zambian recruits it would be expected to be in the anticipated range of K4 million to K6 million
  • For overseas recruit – they must agree to undertake a 3 year contract and travel to Zambia, initially on bachelor status. Accommodation will be provided by the company as will a company vehicle. Vehicle will also be provided for Zambian recruits
  • Job offers for overseas recruits will be subjected to the appropriate Employment Permit being obtained.

For the Senior Technicians very much the same will apply but we will accept less experience etc. Salary for overseas recruits would be in the range of $ 750-$1000 per month gross and the same for Zambian recruits with the latter being paid in Kwacha. Accommodation will be provided for overseas recruits.


OVERHEAD LINESMAN

Skilled Worker

Constructs, maintains and repairs overhead line systems of all voltages on tabular steel, concrete, lattice girder or wood supports.

 

TRADE SKILLS :

Ability to:

1. Correctly use and maintain the general and special tools of the trade including power tools, test equipment and measuring instruments.
2. Set out support positions in accordance with predetermined routes and profiles.
3. Prepare and complete foundations for supports and stays and erect supports.
4. Run out, tension, sag, bind in, joint, bond and terminate all commonly used conductors and service cables.
5. Install insulators, fastening components and accessories.
6. Maintain and service overhead line systems and emergency restoration systems.
7. Climb supports using ladders, climbing corns or other aids.
8. Use safety equipment and protective devices and work in compliance with requirements of safety codes of practice, safety procedures, etc..
9. Use knots and hitches and apply them in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead lines.
10. Correctly instruct, supervise and transfer skills to any apprentice or semi-skilled worker and contractor assigned to him to ensure safety and quality of work.

 

TRADE THEORY :

Knowledge of:

1. Basic mechanics including slings, stays, guys, derricks, winches and shearlegs, variation of load with angle, factors of safety, centre of gravity and equilibrium.
2. Statutory requirements on lifting gears.
3. Fundamentals of power transmission and distribution.
4. Single and three-phase circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance and earth circuit.
5. Electromagnetic induction and proper earthing.
6. Sag charts, variations of sag with temperature, conductor materials and types.
7. Overhead line materials and components.
8. Deviation, bisection and triangulation, vectorial representation of forces acting on lines, bending moment, supports and stays.
9. Use of voltage indicating equipment and measuring instruments.
10. Basic first aid.
11. Industrial hazards, safety and health precautions, energy saving and environmental concerns.
12. Installation practice and regulations, and relevant codes of practice.
13. Relevant ordinances and regulations.

 

ENTRY ROUTE:

Preferred Minimum Entry Qualification:

Completion of Secondary 3.

 

Training:

4-year organized apprenticeship or 3-year organized apprenticeship if preceded by a relevant one-year full-time basic craft course, with attendance at a relevant part-time day-release or block-release craft course in an institute of vocational education or equivalent.

    Setting out & Survey
    Site supervision of General foreman
    Control of local personnel

    Sourcing Materials and spares
    Control of Plant & Equipment - Bulldozers, graders, excavators, tippers,  loaders, rollers etc
    Prepare monthly certificates
    All paperwork associated with Contracts
    Preparing Claims
    Helping management with preparation of tenders
    Controlling Mechanical Workshop
    Dealing with Clients and other stake holders

  2. General Road Works Foremen-Aged 35+
    Experienced in Roadworks Concrete works Culverts & Bridges
    Qualifications: Diploma + experience
    Duties
    Setting out of Roadworks
    Control of Local Foreman, Operators, Drivers, Labour etc
    Basic Mechanical Knowledge and control workshop and mechanical personnel
    Control of Plant & Equipment - Bulldozers, graders, excavators, tippers,  loaders, rollers etc
    Experience in Road Building - Earthworks, Sub base, Base Layer -
    Bituminous Surfacing & Asphalt
    Administration capable of ordering Materials spares etc
  3.  

  4. Plant Manager-Aged 40+
    Qualifications: Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering + Practical  experience
    Duties
    Run & Control a Heavy Duty Plant Workshop with Expatriate & Local Personnel
    Must be familiar with all heavy Duty Plant & Equipment, Bulldozers,
    Graders, Loaders, Excavators, trucks rollers and surfacing equipment
    Excellent diagnostic capabilities
    Ordering spares keepng excellent records and all associated paperwork
    Experienced in Hydrolics

  5. Heavy Duty Mechanics –Age 35+ 
    Qualifications: Mechanical Apprentiship and vast experiencecapable of working with and controlling local artisans & Labour.
    familiar with repairing all heavy duty plant & equipment Bulldozers,
    Graders, Loaders, Excavators, trucks rollers
    familiar with hydrolics, computerisation, engines gearboxes &  differentials
    Experienced in administration reporting procedures servicing records,  spares control etc
     
     Basic Package on offer:
     Contracts are offered subject to Zambian Government issuing Work Permit
     Two year renewable Contracts on a Single Basis
     Flights to & from Country of origin every two years
     Furnished Shared Accommodation
     Transport to & From place of work
     Medical Aid contribution
     Leave entitlement of 30 days per completed 12 months
     If working in the Bush, an allowance of 25% of Basic Salary
     Tax Free US$ Salaries paid in Zambia
     Local living allowance which covers food, electricity, water etc 

 

the above salaries vary according to qualifications and experience but will  not be less than USD$ 9,000.00 per annum (net)
Also paid is
Local allowance of Zambian Kwacha 18,000,000.00 per annum (present exchange rate USD$1 = Kwacha 3,500.00) (+/- $430 / month)
